Inside cover: "No. 308," corrected from "34": presumably an old catalog number; the same corrected number occurs on a slip, written in Italian, pasted to inside front cover. Puttick and Simpson sale (June 1869, lot 1884); acquired by Hubert H. Bancroft in 1884). Forms part of the Hubert Howe Bancroft Collection.

Collation: Parchment, fol. iii (paper and parchment) + 218 + i (paper); 1-312 4-510 6-712 82 94 108 11-1412 1510 16-1712 184 19-228 234 (+1); quires 1-18 catchwords visible but often cropped, quires 19-22 catchwords framed.
Layout: Fol. 2ra-181va (main text): 2 columns of 59 lines frame-ruled in lead; fol. 1ra-vb, 182-217vb: 2 columns of 55 lines ruled in ink.
Script: Fol. 2ra-181va written in a tiny Gothic script by one hand; fol. 1ra-vb, 182-217vb written in large Gothic script by at least one different, later hand.
Decoration: Large blue initials with red pen-flourishing at beginning of each book; running titles in blue roman numerals with red pen-flourishing; some initials within text touched with red. Lines numbered between columns by fives in Arabic numerals; Biblical citations underlined in red. Trace of coat of arms bearing eagle on front cover, largely rubbed off.
Binding: Vellum (deteriorated)--over pasteboard.
Origin: Likely written in Italy or Spain. Preliminaries and index written in a 15th cent. Spanish hand and text of preliminaries traditionally added to Spanish copies of the Moralia.
