Bought of Thorpe by Sir Thomas Phillipps (his no. 2539); passed into the Bancroft Library. Front pastedown, in pencil, "Sale no. 27[-?] in son[-]e Catalogue." In another hand, in pencil, "A/I/5," in a third hand, "u/gy/o," and in a fourth hand, "3/13/6." Below, Phillipps' Middle Hill stamp with "2539" handwritten in pencil. Collation: Parchment, fol. 40; 1-58.
Layout: 17 lines per page, frame-ruled in red ink with lines running the length and breadth of page; ruled in lead for lines of text. Traces of earlier numbering on bottom right corner of recto of folios but cut off when rebound. Catchwords.
Script: French gothic book script.
Binding: Red velvet and leather spine over pasteboards; 5 raised thongs; traces of side ties. Title on spine in gilt ("Les deux amans de Lombardie"), Phillipps no. 2539 on spine. Front and back pastedowns ruled with red frame-ruling like the rest of the manuscript.
Decoration: 1 3-line initial in light blue with white highlighting on gold ground, slightly rubbed.
Origin: Produced "en Normandie" (fol. 1v, line 9) in the early 16th century.
