Script: Written mainly in one heavily gothicizing hand but with several humanistic hands present; later hands range from rough noting scripts to simple round roman miniscules based on printing fonts.
Decoration: Opening initial, fol. 1 (leaf intruded from another ms.): 90 x 85 mm.; archaically styled initial based on French models of mid-15th cent. in white patterned red and blue, flanked by tall, green "dragon" infilled with tendrils of colored flowers and tri-lobed leaves, the whole placed on a cusped burnished gold ground with a floral border in similar style the length of text; opening...
Music: Square notation in red 5-line staves; 6 lines of text and music per page.
Binding: 16th cent. leather over heavy wooden boards; original leather appears tooled or stamped with some ruling and some curling rolls in lozenge pattern; cover repaired repeatedly by nailing strips of leather of spine; evidence of one fore-edge clasp closing on front cover.
Origin: Written during 16th cent., possibly in Spain; probably for use in a Franciscan convent, given the mass of Francis (fol. 42-43), and certainly in Franciscan use by the time later notes and leaves were added.
