Title from modern inscription on front pastedown.
Collation: Parchment, fol. ii + 144 + ii (2nd flyleaf now pastedown); 18 (+ half sheet added for table and preface of Genesis) 2-68 78 (+ one-third sheet added for table of Exodus) 8-108 118 (+ one-fourth sheet added for table of Numbers) 12-138 146 (+2) 15-178 186 (+2); catchwords at the end of each quire; quires 3 and 4 signed "iiii"; quire 6 signed "vi."
Layout: 22-23 long lines; ruled in lead.
Script: Written in a Caroline-gothic script by one hand; additions written by several other hands.
Decoration: 7 contemporary pen-and-ink drawings in margins, some touched in red, of a snake, fish, geometrical forms, grotesque and chimerical animals; 3- 11-line initials in red, decorated in void, some with pen-flourishing in black; 1-line initials within text in red and green; corrections in the text, marginalia and commentary often enclosed in a decorated frame.
Binding: 17th cent. goatskin over contemporary thick wooden boards cut square; top cover detached.
Origin: Probably written in the Cistercian abbey of Morimondo (founded Nov. 10, 1134, Diocese of Milan), to judge by the entry "Item Ysidorus super vetum testamentum" in an inventory of books of this monastery (inventory is part of a lectionary in the collection of Philip Hofer, De Ricci, p. 1693, no. 5), and also by the characteristic script.
