Collation: ii (modern paper, i is pastedown) + 190 (paper) + ii (modern paper, ii is pastedown): 1¹² + 2-18¹⁰ + 19¹⁰ (wants 9 and 10, possibly both blank).
Foliation: Unfoliated. Foliation supplied by cataloger.
Catchwords: Vertical catchwords between the double vertical bounding lines on the right on folios 12v, 22v, 32v, 42v, 52v, 62v, 72v, 82v, 92v, 102v, 112v, 122v, 132v, 142v, 152v, 162v, 172v, 182v.
Watermarks: Two watermarks in the text-block: a detached crossbow with stirrup in a circle, with a single-lined arch and a double-lined shaft (unidentified); a triple mound from the middle of which rises a shaft surmounted by a star (very similar to Briquet BR 11752.)
Layout: Written in 31 long lines, above top line. Ruled in drypoint, with double inner and outer vertical bounding lines.
Script: Written by Jacopo Tiraboschi of Bergamo in Humanistic bookhand.
Decoration: Rubrics, including at the beginning of each poem, in red. Spaces left for 2- to 6-line initials. Guide letters visible throughout.
Binding: Modern. Repaired? by John P. Gray & Son Ltd. of Cambridge: binder's ink stamp in the lower left corner of the back pastedown. Quarter binding in brown leather over paper boards. Blind- and gold-tooling on spine. Three raised bands. Wear and tear on all edges as well as the spine. Damaged rectangular paper label adhered to the tail of spine.
Origin: Probably written in Bergamo, Italy and completed on October 19, 1470 by Jacopo Tiraboschi of Bergamo: "Iacobus Tirabuschus B[er]gomensis Artiu[m] Scolario MoccccoLxxo die decimo nono Octobris complevit hunc Marcialem" -- colophon, folio 184v.

In good condition despite bookworm damage throughout, especially near center-folds. Water damage (with no loss of text) on the lower part of the manuscript, especially worse in quires 17 to 19. The center-folds are supported by approximately 8 mm parchment or paper strips, some of which are repurposed, that are adhered to the innermost leaves of each gathering. Early history of the manuscript is unknown. In the early nineteenth century, the manuscript was first in the possession of Carlo Salvi and later in that of Luigi Celotti. According to Celotti's 1821 Sotheby's sale catalog, it came from either the collection of Matteo Luigi Canònici or that of Giovanni Saibante.
