Manuscript codex
Collation: ii (modern paper, i is pastedown) + 221 (paper) + ii (modern paper, ii is pastedown): 1-21¹⁰ +22¹² (wants 12, possibly blank).
Foliation: Unfoliated. Foliation supplied by cataloger.
Signatures: Quires signed a-i, k-t, v, x-y, with leaves foliated 1-10 in each quire but some are lost due to trimming on the tail-edge and fore-edge. Signatures present on the recto of leaves in lower right corner are: a3, b[1], b2, c2, c[5], g[5], l1, l2, l[4], l[5], m3, n[1], o1, p[1], p[4], q[5], t1, t3, v[2], v[3], v4, v[5], x[2], y1.
Catchwords: Horizontal catchwords in lower right on folios 10v, 20v, 30v, 50v, 60v, 80v, 130v, 140v, 150v, 160v, 170v, 180v, 190v, 200v, 210v. The manuscript probably had catchwords throughout but the rest are lost due to trimming on the tail-edge.
Watermarks: Single watermark on the front flyleaf: a majuscule letter A with an unidentified motif (only half of watermark is extant; unidentified); single watermark in the textblock: a triple mound (similar to Briquet BR 11652); single watermark on the back flyleaf: a majuscule letter C with an unidentified motif (only half of watermark is extant; unidentified).
Layout: Written in 33 long lines, below top line. Ruled in lead, with full-length vertical bounding lines and a full-length horizontal bounding line in the upper margin.
Script: Written by a single hand in Gothic rotunda.
Decoration: 9-line initial M in gold with a partial white vine-stem border in burgundy, green and blue at the beginning of Book I on folio 2r; 4- to 5-line boxed initials in gold on various combinations of burgundy, purple, green and blue backgrounds with fine scrollwork in white at the beginning of the rest of the books on folios 30r, 53v, 82r, 110r, 132r, 160r, 185r, 204r; 2- to 5-line...
Binding: Modern. Bound in full leather dyed in dark red (Morocco) over paper boards; rebacked with leather dyed in light brown. Gold-tooled with two concentric frames and a flower in the middle encircled with stars. The outer frame consists of a band of birds and branches and the inner frame is a narrower band of harps and flowers with eagles on its four corners. The head-, tail- and fore-edge...
