Foliation: Two sets of modern foliation in pencil: in lower left corner (1-24, beginning with the second folio) and in upper right corner (1-25). The description follows the modern foliation in pencil in upper right corner.
Catchwords: Horizontal catchword in lower right on folio 13v.
Watermarks: Two watermarks: a letter M (found only on folio 1; similar to Briquet BR 8346); a tower with battlements, a door and a window (very similar to Piccard IT8355-PO-101143).
Layout: Part 1: Written in 29 long lines. Unruled. Part 2: Written in 24 long lines, above top line. Ruled in lead, with full-length double vertical bounding lines and full-length single horizontal bounding line in the upper margin.
Script: Written by two hands in Humanistic cursive (folio 1r) and Humanistic minuscule (folios 2r-25r).
Part 1: No decoration. Part 2: 15 circular geographical and astrological diagrams, including two mappae mundi on folios 2v, 3r, 3v, 6r, 6v, 8v, 10v, 14r, 15v; portolan-style maps of the Mediterranean Sea, the Aegean Sea and the Black Sea featuring mostly ports and coastal cities in the Near East, North Africa and southern Europe on folios 16r, 17r, 20r, 20v, 21r, 21v, 22r, 22v, 23r, 23v, 24r...
Binding: Unbound.
Origin: Probably written in Italy in the third quarter of the fifteenth century. It is possible that the original manuscript was completed around or just after 1463, based on a colophon on folio 18r in Notre Dame, University of Notre Dame, Hesburgh Library, cod. Lat. c. 11, which constitutes part of the same manuscript.

In fragile condition, with significant water and bookworm damage. Edges frayed and brittle. Upper left corner of folio 1 is torn, with no loss of text. Ink bleed on folios 2-25. Previously, Pryce MS P4 was part of a larger manuscript; the other part is now Notre Dame, University of Notre Dame, Hesburgh Library, Lat. c. 11 (39 folios). As it stands, Pryce MS P4 is a composite manuscript, consisting of two parts: Part 1 consists of folio 1 and Part 2 folios 2-25. Part 1 could have been a flyleaf of the original manuscript, or an added leaf.
The copy of La sfera in this manuscript contains all four books: Book I occupies folios 2r-7v, Book II folios 8r-13v, Book III folios 14r-19v and Book IV folios 20r-25r. Only the beginnings of Book II and Book III are signaled in the manuscript in the upper margins of folio 8r and folio 14r respectively.
