Collation: iv (modern paper, i is pastedown, ii and iii are adhered to each other) + 303 (parchment) + iv (modern paper, ii and iii are adhered to each other, iv is pastedown): 1-30¹⁰ + 31¹⁰ (wants 3-8, 10).
Foliation: Modern foliation in pencil in lower right corner (2-302, skipping folio 4), crossed out and corrected on the last folio of each gathering. Foliation supplied by cataloger.
Signatures: Quires signed B-I, K-Z, AA-GG in pencil at center in lower margin on the recto of first folio of each gathering beginning with the second quire and leaves of last quire signed HH1, HH2, HH9 in pencil at center in lower margin on the recto side of leaves by Alexandra Mason, June 1963.

Decoration: 8-line anthropomorphic initial G in purple, red, green, blue and yellow on gold background, depicting St Augustine holding a book and a scepter at the beginning of Book I on folio 15r; 4- to 12-line foliate initials in purple, red, green, blue and yellow on gold background at the beginning of the rest of the twenty-one books on folios 26r, 36v, 47v, 58v, 71v, 79v, 91r, 103r, 110r...
Binding: Modern. Bound in half leather dyed dark green and marbled paper boards. Six raised bands. Marbled endleaves.
Origin: Probably written in Italy in mid-fifteenth century by Walterus de Valle [also known as Gualtiero della Valle]: "Walterus de Valle scripsit" -- colophon, folio 303r.

In good condition except for missing leaves. Early repairs on parchment, some of which are probably from when the parchment was prepared. Contemporary corrections and annotations, including nota signs, manicules and brackets by at least two hands. Some of the marginal annotations in outer margins are cut out due to trimming of the leaves.
From the collection of Matteo Barresi, marquis of Pietraperzia, Italy: coat of arms with the shield of the Barresi family (or, two pales vair, flanked by two angels, below which are a pair of blackbirds in profile, facing outward) on folio 15r and ownership inscription on folio 303r: "Ex bibliotheca p[er] ill[ustrissimum] d[omnium] Don Mattheum de Barresio facta anno [Christi] 1531."
