Part A is written in two different gothic book hands in black ink in one column, initials and line-fillers in blue, red and gold, with pen-work decoration. Part B is written in a later gothic book hand in red and black. Part A contains 9 illuminated initials of which one is historiated (f. 155v), and various foliate borders. Part B contains 3 illuminated initials and 11 miniatures showing the instruments of the Passion. Part A was probably written in London, to judge from the calendar containing St. Erkenwald. Bound in 16th-century brown calf, with blind-stamped royal arms, Tudor rose, and instruments of the passion arranged armorially, by John Reynes. There are 2 modern brass clasps. In a tray case, 27 Given by Elizabeth Horne to the parish church of Sarsden, Oxfordshire in 1541; Bateman of Middleton Hall, Derbyshire (bookplate). Deposited by Philip Hofer, 1967; bequeathed, 1984.
