Title from the dedicatory preface to Pope Urban IV (f. 1r). Written in northeastern France or Germany in a quick gothic text hand by several scribes, with parted initials in red and blue with penwork flourishes. In a 17th-cent. German white pigskin binding over boards. In a protective tray case, 35 cm. Belonged to the Benedictine monastery at Weingarten in 1630 (inscribed, f. 1r); possibly given to the Landgrave of Hesse-Darmstadt by the French general Thiébault (inscribed, f. 1r): "Imperiali bibliothecae Lutetiis, Thiebault, Fuldensis regionis gubernator, 1807;" possibly in the Hofbibliothek at Darmstadt with other books from Weingarten; possibly belonged to J. E. Schulte; sold by Anderson... Purchased with the George Schünemann Jackson fund, 1942.
